Family Art Portraits
Investment: The cost of a portrait is often referred to as an investment. A good piece of art, or a family heirloom will become more and more valuable to their owners over time. In instances where people have had to select a few treasured items from all of what they own, photographs are the most common possessions chosen, and with good reason. They are not only difficult or impossible to replace, but they have the most intrinsic value to their owners.
A Shane Tegarden original will endure when your other material property has been discarded and forgotten, it will be a treasured investment that will be passed down to your children, and to their children.
Although one might expect work of this caliber to be affordable only to a few, there are options for many different types of clients. I want you to be completely confident in choosing me for your portraits because I guarantee all of my work. I will refund the cost you pay for your session fee if you are not absolutely pleased with your images.
The amount that you choose to invest will always be your decision, and there is no minimum purchase. My mission is to create art for the walls of your home. Most of my clients elect to own the canvas mounted Masterpiece wall portrait enlargement that begin at $426.
To Ensure a Great Portrait Session: We have put together the following list of suggestions for you and your family. Should you have any questions or concerns that are not answered here, please feel free to
contact me.

Booking Time: If you are visiting, we suggest you schedule your portrait session so that it falls midway into your Hawaii visit. The first few days you may need to recuperate from possible jet-lag, as well as allow any over exposure to the sun to calm down. In case of in-climate weather, you will need to have a few buffer days at the end of your vacation should we need to reschedule.
Time of Day: Depending on the time of day, you can capture a completely different mood in your portrait. Sunrise: First morning light offers very soft earth-tone colors. Mid-day: In most cases, you can expect very vivid and bright sunny colors. Example: deep ocean and blue skies, brilliant white clouds and lush greens. Although this description sounds wonderful, it is not the best time for portrait photography as the light has a one-dimensional feel and there is a greater presence of dark shadows. Sunset: This is my suggested time of day. You can usually expect warm, soft, three- dimensional colors perfect for portraits.

Locations: I can create your portrait in one of several locations: either a tropical garden, at the beach, at home, or perhaps a setting in mind that holds special meaning for you and your family. I will help you decide which location is best.
Clothing: It is best to choose a color theme that the entire family can follow. This way, the final image holds over time without dating itself. We suggest wearing solid neutral colors, stick to lighter tones and pastels. Try to avoid prints, patterns, and stripes. The following are ideal color combinations: All white, khaki with white, denim with white, all denim, earth-tone with white, all earth-tone, all black, combinations of black and white. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum, as it can be distracting. Also if you wear glasses, try to get your optician to supply you with empty rims for the day of your appointment.
Ladies: Wear your make-up as usual. Use a neutral nail polish if any. Please do not wear any moisturizers or creams that are too oily or greasy. Avoid a sandy sticky mess!
Men: Keep in mind that an evening portrait will benefit greatly from a fresh shave!
Hair: Outdoors can be very windy in Maui. Be prepared for this. It is a good idea to bring hairspray, a brush, a comb, and extra hair pins, should your hairstyle require them.
