Aerial Photography
Aerial Photography has numerous applications such as advertising and marketing businesses including Resorts, Hotels, Commercial and Residential real estate. The most common type of aerial are the oblique aerial photos. They are taken looking out the side of the aircraft and provide a downward angled perspective of a site. Oblique photos can be taken at steep angles to isolate the subject property or at shallow angles that encompass a wide area and may include the horizon. Oblique aerials visually emphasize structures or properties in the foreground while showing their relationship to the surrounding environment. To ensure quality photos, consider the following: Angle types and helicopter vs. plane. Please contact me with your questions.

     Types of Oblique Angles

Vertical: the most common type of vertical photo is called a "near vertical". Near verticals are done when a straight down view of a site is desired, but the precision required to stitch multiple images together or to take measurements directly from the photo is not required. Near verticals are a cost effective option for areas approximately 1 x 1.5 miles and smaller - down to individual parcels or lots.

Low Oblique: are taken from a fixed wing aircraft at altitudes 1,000 feet above the ground or helicopters, generally from 100 to 1,000 feet in elevation. They provide dramatic aerial views that emphasize the vertical dimensions of the subject.

High Obliques: are shot from 1,000 feet and above and can be used to capture a broad or wide angle view of large areas such as parks, large developments, and towns. High angles are to emphasize a site's proximity to retail centers, entertainment venues or restaurants, industrial parks, schools, and/or medical facilities. A higher shot is also a good way to illustrate the roadways surrounding the subject property and access to it.

Other Angles

Aerial Lifts

For those in need of a lower perspective we have a specialty service called "ultra low altitude photography" from an aerial lift (bucket truck) or an aerial photo mast. Ultra low altitude photography provides a unique tree-top perspective from 7 to 45 feet above the ground. High enough to clear cars and most other distracting obstacles, but low enough to show the subject in great detail.

Stitched Elevated Panorama

Another unique service my clients are raving about, are my stitched elevated panoramas. A series of High Resolution images joined together to create a crystal clear mapping of your project. This image here is of the High tech Park in Kihei just before construction of phase two. It spans the distance from Wailea to Spreklesville, You should see the detail in this 3ft x 12ft enlargment, Amazing!. Please contact me for any quotes or questions.

Plane vs. Helicopter

Plane: For budget minded clients I commonly shoot from a fixed wing aircraft where camera angles, height and distance from subject are not critical. A fixed wing aircraft is great for properties where monthly progress reports are needed.

Helicopter: Let face it, a helicopter is the perfect way to capture any of your aerial photography needs. The ability to hover, change angles and get the job done fast is the way to go.

Even in the hottest of real estate markets, aerial photography makes a property stand out. Look at the advertised listings of the most successful realtors and you see aerial photography! Picture after picture of street level photography all begins to look the same, but aerial views will always catch your eye. The prospective buyer will look at an aerial photograph longer. Aerial photography is perceived to be more expensive than ordinary ground photography, so the potential buyer will take time to see what makes this listing so special.

Commercial Real Estate Aerials: Big real estate developments require more than a handshake to seal the deal. Before a real estate property can even be shopped around, it has to be explained. An aerial view of a prospective real estate deal can answer a host of questions including the three most important aspects about a property: location, location, location. Our commercial real estate aerial photography takes into consideration the very specific requirements that our clients have told us is vital to their needs. A commercial site needs to show exactly where it is located, what is in its immediate area, are there other nearby developments, and does it have easy roadway access. With a nice wide aerial view, everyone will be able to tell immediately from where this particular commercial development will draw its market share.
